The Butterfly: A Radical Act of Community Storytelling

Storytelling, Performance Poetry and Spoken Word in the Oral Tradition Join us, as we radically change minds and hearts at transformative, uncensored adult storytelling concerts. The Butterfly is a FREE community storytelling concert held the 4th Tuesday of each month at our Collingswood location from 7:00-8:30 pm. Storytelling is the first art form.  From its inception on the continent of Africa, storytelling has been steeped in communal ethos.  It is an amalgamated event of teller and audience.  It teaches lessons, empowers voice and maintains societal values.  It makes us laugh, cry, gasp, hold on and release — It connects. FREE DeCafe House Concert with The Butterfly Storytelling

Join us on August 23rd in Moorestown at 6:30 pm for a FREE concert with Soulport and featuring The Butterfly storytellers Dwight James and Denise McCormack. This is the return of the DeCafe House Concert series. The Moorestown DeCafe is a warm coffeehouse environment where great folks gather to enjoy live folk music, jazz, the blues, or world music once per month. Performers range from nationally known singer-songwriters like Michael Smith, Debbie McClatchy, and Chris Smither to talented local musicians on the verge of breaking out. Approximately 75 guests attend each performance, providing an intimate setting for audience and performers alike. In keeping with its coffeehouse inspiration, the cost of admission includes coffee, tea, and light fare. The paid series continues from September to March. Conversation on Culture – Asian Art

Jensen Cheng will present on his role as a teacher of Asian Culture & Arts and will show examples of Chinese brush painting, ceramics, and origami. Jenson teaches classes for adults and children throughout Philadelphia and South Jersey. Perkins is pleased to offer his Bamboo Brush Painting and Asian Arts for Kids classes this spring. The series will be held in the Living Room Gallery at Perkins Center in Moorestown. This series is FREE and open to the public. All ages are welcome. Refreshments will be served. Social Artworking programs are focused on eliminating barriers to the arts. These acts of Social Artworking are made possible with the support of PNC Arts Alive, Be Part of Art.

This annual exhibition in Moorestown features work by staff, faculty and members of Perkins Center for the Arts. It is a diverse exhibition that includes art in a variety of mediums; including ceramic, photography, watercolor, pastel, gouache, oil, acrylic, crayon, pen, pencil, fiber and digital art. Plein Air Competition & Exhibition

Perkins Center for the Arts announces our 1st Annual Plein Air Competition and Exhibition at our annual Handcrafted 2019 fundraiser, on Saturday, May 11, 2019. The 2019 competition begins for participating artists one week prior to the event on May 4 – May 9, 2019. The finished works of art must be turned in by 11:00 a.m. that morning to the event site. Handcrafted will begin at 5:00 p.m. and award winners will be announced at the evening reception. Kauffman   Opening Reception: Saturday, March 9, 2019 | 6-9 PM Perkins Center for the Arts 30 Irvin Avenue | Collingswoood, NJ     About the Artists: John Clarke’s interest in photography developed while he was an architectural student at Cooper Union in the late 1960s. The Cooper students were generally, very talented, poor, living in rundown lofts on the lower east side and struggling to find their way into the design world. The first year architectural students took all their classes with the art students, so they got a great introduction to freehand drawing, two and three dimensional design. At the suggestion of one of his design professors, John bought a used Nikon and began to shoot black and white film around New York City.
