The Butterfly: A Radical Act of Community Storytelling
Presented by – Queen Nur!
Storytelling is the first art form. From its inception on the continent of Africa, storytelling has been steeped in communal ethos. It is an amalgamated event of teller, audience and musicians (if present). It teaches lessons, empowers voice and maintains societal values – It connects!
Let’s Connect!
As we radically change minds and hearts at transformative uncensored and adult storytelling concerts.
Join Us!
and help us shape Perkins Center for the Arts new Community Storytelling Concept at our upcoming
December 13th Lunch & Learn: Conversations on Culture.
Concept Ideas include:
• Signing up to tell stories around particular themes (e.g. Neighbors, Up All Night, Hideouts, Protest, The Ripple Effect, The Art of Seduction)
• Being selected to tell
• Attending a rehearsal that includes, mentoring and crafting techniques
• Telling a 12 minute or less story
• Performing at the concert on the Third Thursday’s of the Month.
Community storytelling is a place where diversity is celebrated and lessons are learned in the best possible way—from people who are different from us. By listening fiercely and intensely, we allow ourselves to be amused or scared or made joyful; we open up to new possibilities. – Penelope Starr
