Benefits of Music Education

Music is a language of its own, a universal expression that transcends words and cultures. Its ability to evoke emotions, inspire creativity, and connect us to something deeper is unparalleled. Whether it’s the joy of discovering a new melody, the thrill of mastering a challenging piece, or the pure satisfaction of making music with others, the intrinsic rewards of musical exploration are boundless. Beyond these personal gratifications, however, the benefits of music education are extensive and include cognitive development, lifelong skills, social connection and emotional well-being.

Tuition opens doors to…

· Tuition is based on the school year calendar with two semesters and a flexible summer schedule (see summer lessons tab for the summer policy).

• Perkins requires a minimum commitment of ONE (1) semester which may be paid in one of two ways: 1) full semester payment upfront or 2) flat-rate monthly installments. Tuition must be paid by the first lesson, or a $10 late fee will be added each week thereafter. New students may join any time at pro-rated costs.

• Any questions or concerns about your assigned lesson day/time should be communicated directly with your teacher prior to payment. Your lesson time is reserved for a minimum commitment of 1 semester for which payment is required in advance, therefore all scheduling details must be confirmed before the start of lessons and payment.

• No refunds or credits will be issued if an instructor cannot accommodate a student’s change in schedule.

· Potential students may inquire about a trial lesson before committing to the semester or school year. Payment must be received at the time the trial lesson is scheduled and is non-refundable.

• Perkins’ Conservatory calendar follows the academic calendar with 2 semesters, 2 dedicated makeup weeks, a flexible summer schedule, and a robust program of performances, ensembles, group classes, adjudications, and much more.

• Coming soon: See attached pdf for the current Conservatory of Music 2024-2025 Calendar.

· Learning a musical instrument requires regular attendance for success. Students pay to reserve their instructor’s time on a weekly basis, and instructors are present, prepared to teach each week.

• If a student is unable to make a scheduled lesson, they must notify their instructor directly no less than 24 hours prior to their scheduled lesson time to be eligible for a makeup lesson. One makeup lesson will be granted per semester. Makeups are reserved for the dedicated makeup week or at an agreed upon time with the instructor. If the instructor cancels a lesson, a makeup lesson will be scheduled.

• High Holy days are excused and can be made-up with one weeks notice to both the Conservatory Manager and instructor.

• Instructors will offer up to 2 makeup options. If the student is unable to accommodate the teacher’s makeup schedule, your makeup is forfeited. If a student cancels their makeup lesson at the last minute, the lesson is considered made-up.

• Closings will be posted on www.perkinsarts.org, on the Perkins Center Facebook page, and on our outgoing telephone message. Lessons may be moved to online platforms, rescheduled for another time, or rescheduled as a studio group lesson. No credits are given.

• A full refund, minus a $20 processing fee, is given up to 7 days prior to the first lesson. No refunds or credits will be made thereafter.

• Trial and single lessons are non-refundable.

• Any request for a change of instructor must be made in writing to the Conservatory Manager. A change in instructor is not guaranteed. No refunds or credits are given. Trial lessons are encouraged.

• Perkins’ flexible summer schedule begins the last week of June and continues through the first three weeks of August. Information and registration will become available in the spring.
