This week (March 2-7, 2026), Perkins Center for the Arts is hosting their Young @ Art show, making it the first time in 15 years that this art exhibition has been held. This event celebrates the creativity of young artists and provides a unique opportunity for students to showcase their work.

The exhibition is open to participants from kindergarteners to high school seniors. By opening the event to a wide range of students, Perkins Center creates a space where young artists can display art of any medium, including painting and photography, alongside 3D pieces such as ceramics, sculpture, and fiber arts. When others see or appreciate their art, it can encourage them to keep improving and believe in their abilities. This is more than just an art show; it is a chance for students to experience something new, to explore their creativity, and to allow audiences to see the world through their eyes.

Families and visitors are able to come to the exhibition and see how each student used their creativity to express their thoughts, feelings, and unique perspectives. Each piece, no matter how simple or complex, carries its own meaning, story, and time spent making it. The event may help students develop a deeper passion for art by giving them the opportunity to have their own creations displayed publicly, which helps them realize that their ideas and skills matter.

Director of Education, Allison Hunt, believes that just as adults have many opportunities to share their artwork, young people deserve the same opportunities to express themselves and develop their talent. By encouraging young artists to put their work out into the world, Perkins aims to inspire them to freely express themselves and continue growing their talents.

The artwork in this exhibition has a distinct significance and a variety of artistic styles that symbolize various things, such as wildlife, which symbolizes a serene lake and the beauty of creatures in the natural world, and others that symbolize culture and community. Viewers may be reminded of peaceful, pleasant locations and quiet times in nature by this piece of art.

The “Young @ Art” show is a meaningful celebration of youth creativity, self-expression, and community support. It gives students a platform to express themselves and put themselves out there to remind everyone that art can be a powerful way to communicate and connect with others, no matter your background or experience.
