Perkins Center for the Arts, Collingswood 12 – 3 P.M.

Perkins Center for the Arts is pleased to announce our 5th annual Feed the Body/Feed the Soul Empty Bowls Fundraiser this December—to help fight hunger in our community while also enabling individuals of limited financial means to experience the arts.

Empty Bowls is an international program that engages participating artists to create and donate handmade bowls in which a simple meal is served to a gathering of caring community members. In exchange for the meal (and the hand-made bowl), guests contribute a minimum donation of $10.00. 100% of the proceeds will be divided equally between the Food Bank of South New Jersey and the Scholarship Fund at Perkins Center for the Arts.

Since 2011, Perkins Center for the Arts has been holding an annual Feed the Body/Feed the Soul Empty Bowls Fundraiser to help support the Center’s scholarship programs and the Food Bank of South Jersey. In its first year, the fundraiser produced 300 bowls and donated $1500 to each organization. Five years later, Feed the Body/Feed the Soul an Empty Bowl Fundraiser has a goal of producing over 650 bowls and donating over $3500 to each organization.

Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger that was created by The Imagine Render Group, a nonprofit organization from NC. The basic premise is simple: Potters and other craftspeople, educators and others work with the community to create handcrafted bowls. Guests are invited to a simple meal of soup and bread. In exchange for a cash donation, guests are asked to keep a bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. The money raised is donated to an organization working to end hunger and food insecurity. Each individual or group organizing an Empty Bowls event designs it around the needs of their own community and is responsible for their own event.

Please find the time, make the commitment, get involved. Your single effort can have a profound impact.

“Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year but when you volunteer, you vote everyday about the kind of community you want to live in.”

We are seeking kiln sponsorship for the Perkins Center 2015 Empty bowls firings. Between now and December 5th Perkins Center will be firing close to 600 bowls in our three electric kilns. Each bowl needs to be glazed and fired twice! Each adopt-a-kiln will help offset the expense to fire the kilns as well as the expense of glaze materials. With your support, Empty Bowls will be able to raise more money for those in need.

$50 Sponsor a Full Kiln of Empty Bowls (Includes a Hand-Made “Thank You” Mug)
