Frequently Asked Questions

What are the ages of camp?

Campers for our standard day camp are 5-11. Our Young Artists Inc(ubator) campers are 12-14.

What is appropriate camp attire?

Our summer arts camp allows campers to have fun while exploring the arts. Campers are asked to wear play clothes as they may get messy. Sunscreen is recommended. Sneakers are also recommended, but required for Field Trip days.

What types of classes will my child be in at camp?

At Perkins Center Summer Arts Camp, your child will be involved in both visual arts and performance arts classes. Some examples from previous years at Moorestown are: pottery, papermaking, gardening, storytelling, theatre and improvisation, painting, African dancing, Salsa dancing, drumming and more.

Young Artists Inc campers will have two intensive classes per day, focusing in collaboration and finding their own unique vision and voice. Classes vary depending on session.

What types of projects will the children make and what will they learn?

Every session of camp has themes that classes may be based around. Each teaching-artist approaches the theme in a unique way and the projects and lessons vary each session. A few examples of projects and lessons from previous years are:

  • Carnival-inspired dance such as the Merengue and Samba
  • Clay Maracas and Whistles
  • “Funny Folly of Clowns” theater piece
  • “Andy Warhol-style” Ice Cream Paintings
  • Native American Dream-Catchers
  • Clay Velveteen “Wish” Rabbits
  • Painted Postcards based on a “Dream” vacation

All projects and lessons are age appropriate. The campers learn so much: The arts hone problem-solving skills, foster confidence, improve communication skills and cultivate creativity. The teaching artists are very excited about this year’s theme, and they have many treats in store for the campers!

Will I be able to see my child perform or have the opportunity to view my child’s work?

Yes! The last day of each camp session is Final Friday. Family and friends are invited to meet the artists, view the artwork, watch the performance and have a sweet treat at the mini-reception. This fun family event starts at 3:00pm and wraps up around 4:00pm. Extended Care will be available after the event for those registered.

Can my child attend multiple sessions?

Yes! Your son or daughter can sign up for as many sessions as you wish. Each session is varied. Even if your son or daughter has the same teaching artist, that artist will work on a different project or vary the lesson.

How many children will be in a group?

Campers will be broken into 2 groups based on age. There are 18 children (max) per group with one counselor and two counselors-in-training (minimum) assisting the teaching artist.

Young Artists Inc features one group of 12 campers maximum.

Do the children have a break?

Yes. There will be a snack and lunch break every day. Campers are asked to bring a labeled nut-free snack and labeled, nut-free bagged lunch and a labeled, refillable water bottle. Lunches can be stored in the refrigerator if necessary. Weather permitting, campers can play soccer, jump rope, play tag or just relax on the arboretum at Perkins after lunch.

Can my child be in the same group as his/her friend?

Yes, please make that clear upon registering and we can usually accommodate this request.

Is the facility air-conditioned?

At Moorestown, the facility has air conditioning units in each room and pitchers of water in each classroom. Campers are asked to bring a labeled, refillable water bottle. There is plenty of water every day for the campers.

My child has special needs, can he/she attend the camp?

We do our best to accommodate all people. Please call Grace Howson, Manager of Studio Classes & Summer Camp, at 856-235-6488, ext. 314 to discuss your child’s specific needs.
